THE EXPERIENCE:

Classes take place in our outdoor classroom surrounded by the beautiful hills of the Wisconsin River Valley, under the shade of our giant maple tree.  We often walk through the display gardens to demonstrate our points from a hands-on perspective.

She believes that gardening is an act of pure pleasure, and her enthusiasm for it is highly infectious. Be prepared to be inspired!

Roger Reynolds is an organic farmer, a master gardener, a permaculture practitioner, an energy-efficient home consultant, an enthusiastic environmentalist, and a humorous and entertaining presenter. Roger has been gardening since he was a child. He is co-owner of Our Farm Produce and Floral Products, Infiltrating Landscapes and Our Home, Our Earth, R-180 Consulting.

COMPOSTING & LASAGNA GARDENING:

A HANDS-ON WORKSHOP

Composting is one of the best ways to recycle, and it gives you a fantastic product when it works. When it does not work, you can have dried plant material for years or a stinking wet mess for the summer. Roger Reynolds will teach you the basics of good, clean composting — in terms anyone can understand. Then we will take our composting knowledge right to the garden and learn how to create a "lasagna garden" — a deep-mulched garden system that takes no digging, no tilling, and has almost no weeds. It can be used to smother invasive species 100%, with no chemicals, and you can plant right over the bad guys as they die — buried. It is the easiest, lowest-maintenance method for growing vegetables and more. Weather permitting, we will build a lasagna garden at Blooming Valley for a hands-on experience.

Saturday, May 23, 1:00 to 4:00 pm

CREATING A FULL SEASON OF NATURAL BEAUTY:

THE NEW WAVE PLANTING MOVEMENT

There is a garden design revolution sweeping the land, and it’s called The New Wave. The brilliant influence of Piet Oudolf, a visionary garden designer from Holland, has created a whole new way of designing with perennials. By looking to nature’s native landscapes and adding artistic skill, beautiful, low-maintenance gardens are created that have interest from spring through fall, and all winter, too. Ina Lukas will show you how to use these design influences to create stunning naturescapes in your yard.  Learn about the plants that create interest all season long through their form, foliage, flowers, and seedheads. If you’re ready to be inspired, don’t miss this class!
